Take a close-up picture

Learn to love close-ups — whether you are filming or taking photographs. Close-ups can be really powerful images.

Look at the pictures below. I took the first one (on my iPhone) in the radio studio at the old JOMEC building. I took lots of wider pictures of the studio but this is the one I’ve ended up using over and again. I love the texture and patterns of the microphone.

Close-ups work because they fill the frame and they give us detail. They’re not the only size shot you need, but you’d be surprised at how often they end up being the best ones.

Activity: Take some great close-up pictures. Try to physically get close up to the thing you’re taking a photograph of, rather than cropping the picture afterwards. We’ll look at them when we meet.
